Continued Learning Overview

Continued Learning lets administrators decide what learners get next, and when, after they are assigned or complete a playlist. It automates recurring training cycles such as annual recertification, and chains learners forward through structured learning pathways, without any manual reassignment work.

Administrators can configure Continued Learning on a playlist, where they can:

• Enable or disable Continued Learning per playlist from the Advanced section of the playlist form.

• Choose the Trigger, Schedule, and Playlist that control when and what learners are assigned next.

• Track upcoming and completed reassignment cycles through playlist reporting.

Learners are automatically assigned their next playlist on the configured schedule and notified when it happens. Their completion history is preserved across cycles.

How It Works

Continued Learning is configured with three independent settings.

Trigger

The trigger determines the point at which the schedule is evaluated for a learner. Only one trigger can be selected per playlist.

• On assignment of this playlist: the schedule is evaluated when a learner is assigned the playlist.

• On completion of this playlist: the schedule is evaluated when a learner completes all courses in the playlist. Learners who never complete the playlist will not have a next assignment scheduled.

Schedule

The schedule determines when the next assignment happens.

• On a specific date: learners are assigned on the same date (day and month) each year. Learners triggered within 30 days before the configured date are scheduled for the following year instead, so they are not reassigned almost immediately.

• After a set number of days: learners are assigned a set number of days after their trigger event, counted from their assignment date or completion date depending on the trigger. Accepts whole numbers from 1 to 1000. The 30-day minimum lead does not apply to this option.

Playlist

The playlist setting controls what is assigned when the schedule fires.

• Assign this playlist: the learner is reassigned the same playlist, starting a fresh cycle (recertification).

• Assign a different playlist: the learner is assigned a separate target playlist (pathway chaining). Only Active playlists in the same organisation can be selected, and a playlist cannot target itself.

When the Schedule Fires

A daily automated run processes every learner whose reassignment date is due. For each due learner:

• A fresh assignment of the target playlist is created, starting from not started.

• If the learner had Completed the current playlist, that completion is preserved and remains visible in reporting.

• If the learner was still in progress, their current playlist attempt is marked Incomplete. Any individual course they were partway through keeps its progress and is not reset.

• The learner is notified that the playlist has been assigned to them.

• If the new assignment's playlist also has Continued Learning enabled, the cycle continues with a new scheduled date.

If the target playlist is no longer available at the time the schedule fires (for example it has been archived, or the learner no longer meets its availability restrictions), no assignment is made and the learner's scheduled date is cleared.
